Athens of West Africa

Sierra Leone is my birth country. Dubbed “the Athens of West Africa” in the 1800s for its proliferation of educational institutions, it does not hold up to its promise today. But, it is home to amazing people with a beautiful spirit and the crucible of many fun and lasting memories for me.

Global Nomad

I have been traveling since I first left Sierra Leone to attend university in the United States, which has been my home for over 30 years. I have studied, lived and worked in 13 cities across 4 continents - North America, Europe, Asia and Africa. I am at my best exploring a new city or culture and their art or food markets, and being challenged by anything that is new to me.

Corporate Career

Over the last 20+ years, I was fortunate to enjoy a very successful corporate and executive career - spanning 6 leading global brands - Nike, adidas, Gap, VF Corporation, Goldman Sachs, and Lehman Brothers. I was also the President of a start-up university. Through these experiences I got to meet and learn from incredibly talented people about what it takes to be world-class and strive for your potential.

Courage

Over time, I realized that my most transformational growth experiences happened not when I worked harder but when I went against the grain of my comfort zone. I also found that too many times, I made choices more to satisfy others than to follow my instincts.  It was a startling but powerful revelation and my journey with discovering and maximizing my courageous self continues…

Family

My parents, wife and two young children, siblings and other family have been the biggest investors in my journey; they own a special place as my most helpful critics and biggest cheerleaders. They hold the bar really high, and I won’t say I meet it most of the time.
