A broken team is the leader’s job to fix

A motorist was driving when his car broke down. He got out of the car, looked around the vehicle and thought hard.
- Then he found his tools, rolled up his sleeves, and settled down to repair his car and get back on his way.
- He discovered that one of his tires had a leak that would take some time to fix. Frustrated, he took out his knife and slashed the tire.
- He could not determine the cause of the breakdown, so on an impulse, he decided to set the entire car on fire right there on the wayside.

Pick the ending you like, but I wonder which endings we actually chose as leaders when things go wrong with our teams or colleagues. The right thing to do seems obvious but how do we really treat the people we manage when things don’t work out as we want?
