Camino Frances 2024 Day 14 - Jun 18, 2024
Today we traveled almost 400 km, from Burgos to Sarria, by blahbla car. This was a long planned transition, what it takes to get me back home for other engagements by the end of June, and what it took to get me to go on this Camino. We discoved blahbla cab just last night when we had difficulty finding buses and trains for the trip. Think of it as the Spanish version of uber, albeit with some notable differences and way less corporate. Ignacio our driver spoke little English, was quite nice and got us to Sarria safely and without mishap except that I forgot my garmin watch charging on the floor of the bus station. Our driver smartly decided to call Europcar while I was bouncing around in the main train station automated line and secured the watch that was still on the floor. Tomorrow we have to work on finding a courier to send it to Santiago or one of our other stops. We drove through the dreaded middle part of the Frances camino called the Meseta for only 4.5 hours and as looked at its desolate expanse I kept thinking of all the friends we have walked with who started out of Burgos this morning and will trek across these plains and over two peaks for the next 17 days many of them nursing injuries and aches as we all are. I have nothing but utmist respect for them. It leaves one with this sense of obligation to come back later and complete the meseta. We have done about 280 km of walking to date and start the final stretch, over 100 km in 6 days to Santiago. It feels routine to be walking and connecting with other pilgrims. I am looking forward to it.
