Camino Frances 2024 Day 17 - Jun 21, 2024

Today was a short day in many ways. We walked about 14 km from Palas de Rei to Melide. There were a ton of people walking the Camino but barely any meetings or conversations. We did come across a woman in front of her gate stamping passports who turned our to be from Portland and moved to the house with her husband a few years ago after living in Valencia. She is also an author and a painter so I warmed to her immediately. She is a big advocate of living in Spain. We walked on wooded trails mostly but a few times on the street and paved farm roads and through some villages. I am enjoying seeing the small churches. The place we had first booked was a dorm so we switched to a hotel across the street. I realized something was amiss when they asked us if we were traveling with bed bugs, a question we had not been asked before. Feeling lazy. I will take the rest of the day easy.
