How to become rich

A few days ago my 4 year old daughter shared that when she grew up she would move to the North Pole and buy a house next to Santa's. Then she pondered "Daddy, how can I become rich so that I can do that?". "Well, you don't have to worry about becoming rich", I started.

Be passionate. Care about something enough to want to be the best you can be at it. Passion makes you relentless.  Relentlessness makes you solve problems. Solving problems helps you add value. Adding value gives confidence, guides you to set bigger goals and to keep going. Passion keeps on giving.

But I know a lot of passionate, successful people who I don't enjoy being around, and I know when I have relied on passion alone I have not always been at my best.

Be compassionate. See yourself as intricately linked to others and care about their success. Help them grow and as they do so, they will challenge you and teach you to become better. Even if they have nothing to offer you, helping gives you a sense of purpose and reason to be happy. Compassion is human, and healthy.
