Camino Frances 2024 Day 2 - Jun 6, 2024
21 km from Roncesvalles to Zubiri and then to Larrasoana by taxi where we are spending the night. It was sweltering and if yesterday was all uphill, today was all downhill. Victor's knee still hurts so we went slow and he often had to go down backwards. The knee did not hurt going uphill. There are so many interesting people here. The two elderly French women who have been friends since secondary school, Volcker from Hamburg whose daughter is also doing the Pacific Coast Trail, David with the Ethiopian son who moved from the USA and is one month into his own auberge and brewery, Vicky from South Africa and Australia who is traveling with Anna her daughter, Grifta from St. Lucia who grew up in Heidlberg and Freiburg and is now moving from Paris to Madrid and Mauritz her boyfriend also from Heidlberg, I think. Today's challenge was all the rocks on the trails both uphill and down hill. Sometimes, they were loose, flat shingles and other times fixed and carved out into deep, jagged gullies or treacherous slides. The best way forward was with care, one foot placed slowly in front of the other, nothing impulsive or not throught about, given all the unknowns and the aversion to get hurt in the middle of nowhere.
